Beat the summer

Summer blues? I know some of you are waiting patiently for your’s to come like we craving our winter here. Hot, humid and sticky summers are part and parcel of living in Dubai, getting home from the school run and looking like you’ve been to the pool is an everyday occurrence. We could all sit and moan or we could grab summer by its sweaty neck and say up yours!!

Today we had art time, there’s only some much time you can spend in soft play and not all Dubai families have an unlimited pot of spare cash, so with this in mind I hit Daiso which is our equivalent to a good old pound shop. I brought painting brushes, wool, and plastic spray bottles and endless amounts of items that could keep these little humans occupied.

Here’s today’s antics

Using a child friendly paint from the early learning center, I mixed about a 1cm of paint with tap water to a fairly watery consistency but not so you could see through it

I tape 2 pieces of easel paper to the wall and let them rip, they had a great time! Granted the wall was messy but it came clear off with some soapy hot water.

LPV especially enjoy the activity, somewhat satisfying for me as it was sneaky way for me to build up his fine motor skills which in turn will help with his pencil control

Considering past attempts at painting with these two (namely miss C painting her brother) I stripped them down to their undies

A beautiful mess….

Very Jackson Pollock

As I said before it comes off the wall easily if you clean it off straight away, the paper was pretty soggy so the painting didn’t really survive but it wasn’t about them creating a masterpiece it was about the fun

I’m certainly not a crafting queen but I will share any fun things or activities we you all over the summer

Oh wow you indeed are nurturing a new pollock! I’ve considered something like this when my daughter was growing up but couldn’t find a way to encourage it at the time :-/
